Hiroshi Nakaso, former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Japan (2013–2018), serves as Chairman of the Institute at the Daiwa Institute of Research (DIR). During his four decades at the Bank, he played a pivotal role in financial system stability, leading Japan’s response to the 1990s financial crisis, the exit from Quantitative Easing (2001–2006), and global coordination during the 2008 financial crisis. He also chaired key international committees, including the BIS Markets Committee and the G20 Study Group on Commodities (2006–2013).

Mr. Nakaso became Chairman of the Organization of Global Financial City Tokyo (FinCity.Tokyo) in April 2019, promoting Tokyo as a global financial center. From 2021 to 2024, he represented Japan at the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), where he led financial sector discussions and spearheaded policy recommendations for APEC Leaders. He chaired ABAC’s Finance Task Force in 2023 and the Finance and Investment Task Force in 2024. He also chairs the University Endowment Fund Investment Advisory Committee under JST.
